Simplicity Bridged The Gap

Simplicity is a concept that many people struggle with. I know, I do. We often desire more, but at the same time, appreciate the simple pleasures in life. However, it can be easy to overlook simplicity because it can seem mundane or boring. It’s such a foreign concept because this world tells us, ‘we need more stuff,’ ‘we need to be the best,’ and ‘we need everyone to know our name.’ It’s so counterintuitive to think differently.

In Matthew 21:1-3, Jesus asks two disciples to find a donkey. This simple task was crucial in fulfilling the prophecy of the Messiah entering Israel on a donkey. If Jesus had asked you to do this task without knowing the full outcome or its significance, how would you have approached it? Would you have been more intentional and mindful?

There are many simple tasks that we may overlook as ordinary, such as picking up the kids from school, meetings, or running errands. But what if one of these simple tasks was a bridge to a miracle? As it was for the disciples in the story, valuing simplicity and being mindful of the tasks we are given, can lead to unexpected outcomes. What simple task is God requesting you to complete or do?

Next time you are faced with a simple task, take a moment to reflect on its value and the potential impact it may have. You never know, it could be a stepping stone to your next miracle or someone else's.
