Have you ever heard the saying, "I have never seen the righteous forsaken"? It's a phrase that gets tossed around in church circles quite often, but I never fully grasped its depth until I took the time to dive into it. This powerful testimony comes from Psalm 37:25, where King David declares, "I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread." Let me share with you how this verse has profoundly impacted my life, especially during the incredibly tough seasons.
I remember the first time I pondered this verse. A dear friend left me a voice memo while I was in the hospital with my daughter. It was an uncertain time in my family's life and I was taken aback by this "encouragement." I had heard it before but never truly meditated on its meaning. My curiosity was piqued, and I decided to explore it further. I discovered a treasure trove of reassurance and faithfulness that has been a cornerstone in my journey ever since.
The health journey for my family seemed daunting, (it still is at times) with no clear answers or cures insight. Yet, amid this uncertainty, God’s provision gleamed through like a beacon of hope. Unexpectedly, we connected with the best doctors, received support from our church community, and discovered new treatments that significantly improved my daughter's health. We still have a ways to go. Through it all, God showed Himself faithful, not just to me, but to my children as well. Their faith blossomed as they witnessed His tangible love and care.
One of the most beautiful aspects of this verse is the assurance that God's care extends beyond ourselves to our children. I have witnessed this firsthand. Despite the challenges, my children have never had to beg for bread. They have seen God’s hand at work in our lives, and I believe this has sown seeds of faith in their hearts. It’s a legacy of trust in God's provision that I hope will carry on through generations.
Psalm 37 is a rich tapestry of God’s promises and guidance. It calls us to trust in the Lord, do good, and commit our ways to Him. It assures us that He will act on our behalf. It teaches us to be patient and not fret over the future. These themes have been my anchor. Trusting God isn't always easy, especially when the storm clouds gather. But remembering His past faithfulness gives me the strength to trust Him with my present and future.
I encourage you to take some time to reflect on Psalm 37:25 and how it has played out in your life. Think about those moments when God showed up for you, providing what you needed at the right time. Write them down and share them with a friend. Let these testimonies of His faithfulness bolster your faith and encourage those around you.
Trusting in the Lord is a journey, and it requires daily surrender. It means letting go of our need to control and resting in the assurance that He is faithful. I challenge you to hold onto the truth of Psalm 37:25. In every season, especially the hard ones, remember that God has not forsaken you. He is with you, providing, guiding, and sustaining you.
As a leader, my heart is to see women rise up in faith and trust the Lord wholeheartedly. We are often the caretakers, the ones holding things together. But we must remember that it is God who holds us. Lean into Him. Trust His faithfulness. He is faithful, and He will never forsake you or your children.
